Steiner: "Verstappen received an offer that he won't say no to"
2025-02-02
In recent weeks, Aston Martin's "alleged" billion-dollar contract offer aimed at luring Max Verstappen has caused quite a stir. Günther Steiner believes the initiative will be successful, as it involves an unimaginable amount...
Although there is currently no guarantee that Aston Martin will become a world-class team, there are signs pointing in that direction. Steiner suggests that Verstappen would accept the offer even if the green team is not competitive:
"One billion is a huge number. Even if Max were last, he would still do it for a billion immediately. Not many teams can afford this, but Aston clearly can; they can put a billion-dollar salary on the table. This is a high bar, an absolute record in F1 history, and probably no one will ever break it. I mean, if it's real and not just speculation... I don't think it is. The reason I don't believe it will happen is the current driver lineup. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are under contract until 2026, and I don't find it likely that Fernando would leave, nor do I believe that Lawrence Stroll would sacrifice his own son at the altar of business. However, the situation will be completely different from 2027..." - Steiner left the door open.
