Sainz: "I didn't think I would be beating Ferraris"

We are still very early in the season, but one thing can already be confidently stated. 2025 is clearly the surprise team, Williams!

They know and see this within the team as well, who a year ago at this time wouldn't have dared to dream that they could be in contention with the Ferraris...

“I joined Williams because I knew they had the potential to be as good, or even better than Scuderia Ferrari one day. If that hadn't been the case, I wouldn't have chosen them, but I honestly believed in this. But I didn't expect that at this stage of the season we would already be beating them... It's not about being satisfied that we finished ahead of them in the last two qualifying sessions, but that the work we put in is paying off.

I changed my style, they changed the car. They listened to me about what we should be doing differently, and as soon as we implemented that, improvements came immediately, performance increased, and our developments started to work as well.

We are still three to five tenths away from pole position, while Ferrari is sometimes only a tenth away, but at other times much more, because they are struggling with their car. However, we have become quite balanced, our pace is good, and our tire management is also good.” - the Spaniard stated optimistically.
