Piastri set a national record at 45 years old.

2025-04-15 Piastri set a national record at 45 years old.

The joke is that this last happened 800 Formula 1 races ago. All of this happened alongside pole position and the fastest lap!

Moreover, with this, Oscar Piastri has stepped into the ranks of world championship challengers, as he is only three points behind his teammate, Lando Norris, who leads the standings. Piastri has won four races in his career so far, and with his last victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix, he set an Australian national record.

Alan Jones achieved a similar success in 1980 at the season-opening Argentine Grand Prix while driving for the Williams team, which was the 329th race in the series' history, while last weekend's Bahrain race was the 1129th, meaning exactly 800 races had to pass for an Australian to replicate this. What is a great omen for Piastri is that when Jones achieved this, he went on to win the world championship that year...
