Norris: "I have everything within me that is needed for the individual world championship title"
2024-12-09Although Lando Norris lost in the individual battle, his performance in the final round secured the constructors' championship title for McLaren. That is already in the bag, but he hopes to win in the drivers' championship in 2025 as well...
Norris acknowledges the defeat and also that Max Verstappen was better than him in 2024, but he sees a lesson behind the missed opportunity:
"Being second, slipping from victory is always a painful thing, however - it may sound strange - I am already happy that I am heading into 2025 knowing that I am capable of fighting. I know myself, my strengths, my limitations, no one knows better than me what I need to improve. There are areas where I am strong, and there are areas where I am not as strong, I am open to criticism, and I am open to improving where necessary.
Last year, my qualifying performance was not up to par, but this year I was almost twice as good, and I secured a bunch of pole positions. This year, I didn't have that extra edge that would have allowed me to beat Max Verstappen, that would have enabled me to compete against him. However, I definitely felt that he is human too, and if I improve my technique here and there, then I can certainly say that I have the strength to beat him.
I feel that I have already come close to this in the recent races, where I achieved strong results. I hope that 2025 will be a year where I will be in contention for the championship title from the very first race!" - Norris stated determinedly.
