Mexican Grand Prix: Sainz achieved a beautiful victory
2024-10-27Exciting start and sparkling first stage, then boring train-like racing: this is a brief summary of the Mexican Grand Prix, which was won by Carlos Sainz.
Max Verstappen had a tremendous start and took the lead ahead of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris. However, the Dutchman could not enjoy his position for long, as the safety car came out due to Yuki Tsunoda's ugly crash. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez also had a "huge" start, and the Mexican is slowly becoming unable to find his own position on the grid. Thus, despite improving a bunch of positions, the Red Bull driver immediately lost them due to a penalty. After five laps, the race could continue, and Sainz came in and changed his pace to regain the first place from Verstappen. The main Red Bull Racing driver was also having a tough race, as he got involved in a battle with Lando Norris and committed a foul against the Brit, which also ended in a serious penalty.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes cars were battling each other, and Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from his anniversary race due to a technical failure.
Sainz, Leclerc, Verstappen were the order at that time, but the latter driver received a 20 (!!) second penalty, which meant that Red Bull withdrew from the constructors' championship battle. By the time the first pit stops took place, the intensity of the race also diminished. The leading group settled down, and from then on, we could only see train-like racing. Scuderia Ferrari, Lando Norris, Mercedes, this was the pattern, and by then we were already on lap 51, but there was only one significant position change even in the last stint.
Carlos Sainz achieved a smooth victory, but Lando Norris closed in behind him, overtaking Charles Leclerc, who could console himself with the point for the fastest lap. Let's just say, this was not the best Mexican Grand Prix of all time...
