Is the Bahraini consultation actually a crisis meeting?

2025-04-11 Is the Bahraini consultation actually a crisis meeting?

It seems that the meeting held with the participation of the team leaders is not at all what it appears to be. So, the return of the V10 engines is just a facade, while the focus is on firefighting in the background...

All of this was hinted at by Mark Hughes, the veteran F1 journalist, who described exactly what he meant. According to Hughes, the urgency for the weekend's meeting arose because gaps have developed between manufacturers during the development of the 2026 engine formula, which could lead the series into a downward spiral, making racing potentially trivial.

Allegedly, one of the five engine manufacturers is in an outstanding position (Hughes claims this is Mercedes), one is in a gray area, meaning nothing is known about it, the third will be uncompetitive with the fuel it has chosen, while the other two suppliers are at a terribly rudimentary level. Moreover, the problem is further escalated by the fact that most of the already developed elements of the engines, as well as the fuels to be used from 2026, have already undergone homologation, which freezes the current order of powertrains. And we haven't even mentioned the global economic crisis that affects everything - including this process. They would like to find some solution to this... In principle, lifting the homologation could represent an opportunity, and there may still be room to adjust the balance of energy output from the internal combustion/electric motor. But whether this will provide a solution or just be enough for the calm before the storm...
