Herbert: "Oscar should be the number one driver for McLaren!"

Do we still remember the times when McLaren was building around Lando Norris and proudly embraced it? Well, that is now history, and new winds are blowing.

Johnny Herbert is well known for his sharp tongue, but it is undeniable that his statements always carry significant weight. As in the case of Oscar Piastri now:

"I think his mental resilience, balance, pace, and tactics are excellent this season. Moreover, the stoic calm with which he drives, the resourcefulness with which he communicates and handles various situations is visible and audible to everyone. What we see from Piastri is something that is needed for the championship title. Mentally, he is at the same level as Max Verstappen!"

On the other hand, Lando Norris... Unfortunately, he makes a lot of mistakes. A perfect example of this is his recent qualifying crash in Saudi Arabia. Sure, we can say he was unlucky, but when someone makes a mistake at such a pace, that's the end. Is there a lot of pressure on him? Yes, but every driver faces pressure; that's Formula 1! Some handle it better, and some less so... The mistakes made by Norris could harm the team's hopes for championship titles in the long run, while Oscar Piastri has shown that he can even surpass Max Verstappen. In every sense. That's why I think it’s time to say that Oscar should be McLaren's number one driver!"
