Harsh: Instead of a timer, the FIA can decide the starting order.
2025-02-20
We all remember the chaos of last year's Brazilian Grand Prix, the postponed qualifying, the accidents. Well, none of this went without consequences...
Therefore, a new rule has been introduced regarding F1 qualifying. The most debated aspect of the quality mentioned in the introduction was how and on what basis the starting order would be determined if it were not possible to hold a qualifying session.
The reaction to what was seen last year is already here, manifested in the fact that if a similar situation were to arise from 2025 onwards, meaning a scenario where a qualifying session cannot be held, the rule is that the drivers will start according to the standings of the individual World Championship points.
But what if all this happens at the very first race of the year, when there are no World Championship points yet? Well, in this case, the option is that the starting order will be determined by the FIA race officials. How they will do this based on what directives is still unknown, but it perhaps goes without saying that this decision sets the stage for incredible debates...
