Finance: Spa Francorchamps is being added to the euro
2025-01-29
With extraordinary news - thank goodness, this time in a positive context - the world-famous Belgian racetrack has made headlines.
King Philippe of Belgium announced that this year the Kingdom of Belgium will issue a coin that pays tribute to one of the world's most famous racing circuits, if not the most famous.
In countries using the euro, it is a common practice to issue two types of new 2-euro coins each year, featuring new designs. On the obverse side, they commemorate significant and important themes related to the issuing country or Europe.
In his statement, King Philippe also notes that the reverse side of the “Spa-Francorchamps euro” will feature the outline of the racetrack, with two numbers on the left side: 7004 and 1921. The first obviously symbolizes the current length of the track, while the second represents the year it opened, as races were first held there in that year. A (official) design for the coin has not yet been released, but it wouldn't hurt to stay alert: you could get a beautiful Formula 1 souvenir, and it's free!
