Ecclestone: "Hamilton won't last long at Ferrari..."
2025-02-10
Bernie Ecclestone, the former head of Formula 1, has harshly criticized Lewis Hamilton. He believes that Hamilton should not settle for a long stay in Italy.
This may have "something to do" with the traditions of Scuderia Ferrari, as Maranello is not the place where Hamilton's silly celebrity-evoking antics will necessarily be appreciated. According to Ecclestone, this does not strengthen the British driver's position either:
"His contract runs until 2026, but he will not fulfill it. Piero Ferrari brought him there, and he thinks he did the team a favor; I hope he does not regret his decision. I hope they won't say, 'I wish we hadn't done that...' One thing is age, another is competitiveness. I believe that regarding Lewis, he has actually already worn out, he is not as motivated as he used to be. If he didn't have a world championship title yet, perhaps the situation would be different; that would drive him. But he already has seven. The other root of the problem is his past actions.
Indeed, he has done many things that may make him unpopular. I myself do not understand why someone needs to dress like this as a world champion and millionaire; I really do not like it, it is not appropriate. I do not understand why he keeps doing these silly things... He is obviously a talented driver, but he is very overrated." - Ecclestone harshly criticized Hamilton.
