Bahrain Grand Prix: Piastri won and is now second in the standings

2025-04-13 Bahrain Grand Prix: Piastri won and is now second in the standings

The Bahrain Grand Prix did not bring any surprises, as Oscar Piastri secured a smooth start-to-finish victory with a controlled performance in a not very tight race.

Piastri got off the line excellently and easily maintained his leading position. However, George Russell started even stronger, moving up to second place, not to mention Lando Norris, who jumped to a podium position immediately with a stronger start than all of them. It wasn't just the front runners shining; the smaller teams also put up a good fight: Pierre Gasly comfortably held onto fifth place, while Carlos Sainz quickly climbed to sixth.

However, the Spaniard couldn't celebrate for long, as Kimi Antonelli first caught up to him, and then Max Verstappen passed him as well. Soon after, Lewis Hamilton did the same, with whom the Williams driver engaged in a spectacular battle but ultimately came out on the losing side. Meanwhile, the other Red Bull was constantly closing in on Yuki Tsunoda, and after the tenth lap, the pit stops began. We saw different strategies, with Scuderia Ferrari and Alex Albon being the last to make their tire changes. After the reshuffling, we saw the same Piastri-Russell-Norris order, but what was much more interesting was the situation of Haas and Esteban Ocon: The Frenchman was driving steadily in sixth place after starting from the back of the field.

We were already well past the halfway point of the race when Charles Leclerc found his pace, overtook Norris, and took third place from him. Meanwhile, Verstappen's struggles were very noticeable, as he was having one of the worst races of his career. In the 32nd lap, the twist came: Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz got into a serious battle, and the two cars collided, causing debris to litter the track. The safety car came out, and with it, everything we had seen so far was turned upside down strategically. Piastri executed the restart excellently, and after a fiery tussle that followed, everything remained the same, with the Piastri-Russell-Leclerc trio still leading the Bahrain Grand Prix.

To be honest, we will not remember this race as the race of the decade; apart from the battles in the midfield, hardly anything happened that was worth noting. The final laps were colored by Norris's agile attacks, and after lengthy attempts, the Brit took third place from Leclerc, and that was how the race ended. Oscar Piastri won the Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of George Russell and his teammate, thus moving up to second place in the individual points standings.
